My caviary is in my garage. Up until early summer of 2008 my pigs were in various hutches scattered around my garden. My garden has very little shade! My friend Kim put the idea into my head. My house is old, nice and cool on hot days. The garage is the same. It just made sense to move them all in to one nice cool space. There is a window at the back so they get plenty of light when the door is shut.
It's all change in the caviary again. I've just completed another 8 pens (the ones in the middle of the pic) . I've made them a little bit bigger than the last ones to allow more light in. They can house a pair in each pen or remove the wire divider and house 3-4. I have turned some of my free standing pens into pens for young show hopefuls. The pens have double wire dividers to prevent neighbours chewing each other.
At the back of the garage, running its full width, under the window, is a worktop. Ideal for grooming on, clipping coats and claws, weighing and storage.
A weekend project was turning this donated large strong hutch into a summer holiday chalet for some of my retired sows.
